Early Orthodontic Treatment

It is recommended to start orthodontic treatment early, around age 7, because adult teeth are developing.

Early Orthodontics

Early Orthodontic Care Is Important

As much as possible, we want to eliminate the need for extensive orthodontic work and/or oral surgery in your child’s future. At Nalchajian Orthodontics, we strive to provide our youngest patients with treatment options that prevent the development of more difficult and complex problems. We treat a wide variety of patient ages at both of our offices in Fresno, CA, and Clovis, CA.

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that your child’s first appointment with an orthodontist is around the age of 7. While many times we may not recommend any treatment at this age, it is important to be aware of your child’s developing orofacial structure and needs. If early orthodontic treatment is determined to be necessary, Drs. Greg and Nicole Nalchajian will create a comprehensive treatment plan to suit your child’s specific needs. Around age 8 or 9, overbites, underbites, crossbites, or other progressive problems can be corrected.

Does my child need early orthodontic treatment?

This is a question that we often receive from many concerned parents and one we can only answer with a comprehensive consultation. We offer consultation appointments free of charge and will be able to determine your child’s specific orthodontic needs at that time. However, some signs may indicate that your child is a candidate for early orthodontic treatment:

Keeping an eye on your child's dental development is important. If your child is experiencing one or more of the above signs, early orthodontic treatment may be needed. If you have any concerns about your child’s dental development, please contact our office for a complimentary consultation.
